FAQ

What should I wear?

Dragon boating is a water sport so wear comfortable clothes and shoes that you wouldn’t mind getting a little wet. A hat, sunscreen, and sun glasses are also recommended.

Feel free to bring a water bottle, a waterproof bag for your keys and cell phone, and a towel or change of clothes kept in your car for after practice.

What do I need to know before coming to practice?

Come ready to have fun! You'll learn everything you need to get started with paddling your first practice. Our coaches will make sure to set you up with all necessary equipment and review all necessary safety details and basic paddling instructions.

No prior experience or swimming ability needed. All fitness levels and abilities welcome.

What if I want to keep paddling after my first practice?

All returning guest paddlers and members use TeamSnap, the official scheduling app used by KP Dragons, to sign up for practices. Keep a look out for an email from us to join TeamSnap or talk with one of our coaches or board members.

Your first 3 practices are free. Afterwards, we will ask you to formally join our team, at an annual membership rate of $150 for the full season. This serves to cover insurance, boat maintenance, and equipment upkeep. We are a non-profit, which relies on the generosity of our members and volunteers.

When are practices?

We practice year-round every Saturday and Sunday from 8:30am to 10:30am. At certain times of the year, we will also host weeknight practices.

Our Sunday practices are geared towards newer paddlers and experienced paddlers looking to practice basic paddling techniques. This practice tend to offer more instructions. Saturday and weeknight practices are typically more intense and consist of more drills, conditioning and strength pieces. If you are a newer paddler and interested in signing up for a Saturday or weeknight practice, please talk to one of our coaches first.

And yes, we even paddle in the rain (as long as it remains safe to be on the water)!

Does KP Dragons compete in any races?

Yes! KP Dragons competes in a number of local and away races each season. We list all of our scheduled races in TeamSnap.
